veterans day parade
Delaware had their veterans parade yesterday. My heart was in my throat as over a hundred motorcyle enthusiasts, many former vets, lead that parade. I could hear that distinctive roar of motorcyles from blocks away.
Then came three different color guards, and veterans, past and present, walking down the streets. Then came those vets who served in WWII, Korea, Vietnam and those of present day skirmishes. As each of these cars passed by I said as loud as I could "Thank you for your service." I was the only one on my side of the of the street who was watching the parade in a 3 block area. There were 25-30 people on the other side of the street, scattered here and there in the same 3 blocks.
Most people just waved flags and that is good - showing respect for those who had served so that we might be free. But you should have seen the expressions when they heard my comment. Their eyes lit up with a renewed passion to serve this great country. As long as I draw breath I will continue to honor these vets, even if this is the only way I can.

Twice daily mail
My mom will be 83 in a couple months. She has almost perfect health (praise the Lord for that), and doesn't take any pills except for Tums.
She is a living historical library for the city of Delaware, Ohio. Having grown up during the depression she knows all about hard times.
The other day she was reminiscing and said she remembers when the mail was delivered twice, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. The big hill on South Washington street was closed to thru traffic so the kids could go sledding when it snowed. Its a steep hill even to drive on and so the kids must have had a ball.
