New tab added

The recipe tab I added recently is special -- mostly depression-era recipes from my grandmothers who knew how to feed their families on very little money. Some recipes are made from scratch BUT very simple to prepare.

Simple easy home fragrance

The holidays are upon us. With all the shopping, and and tree trimming, decorating the house inside and out, we need a way to relax and enjoy the fragrances of yesteryear.

A simple way to do that is to take an old saucepan that isn't good for much anymore, fill it with 1 1/2 - 2 cups of water. Add cinnamon sticks (the cheap kind work just as well from the dollar store), and add some whole allspice, whole cloves, and a few strips of peeled oranges. Let this simmer on the back of the stove all day and let the fragrance take you back to simpler times. As the water evaporates, just add more and occasionally add more spices, peel as needed.
